5 Ways to be Better Prepared

If I've ever had "one of those days" - today was definitely it. No earth shattering events to speak of, just one little thing after another ate away at my nerves and by the end of the evening I couldn't even think straight. Out of the chaos I came to the conclusion that I need to simply and better manage my time at home.

Now - ask me how many times I have said this before. How many times have I set forth to change? Aaaand how many times have I forgotten about it and went back to my "old ways" before they even became my "old" ways? A LOT... innumerable... laughable, really.

I really need to make this change a priority though and gain some stability to my housewife life. Time management has always been my downfall - ask my brother who would lovingly stay up with me at 3AM as I wrote my history essay due that day. I pick up snacks on the way to my daughter's youth group instead of baking, I am exhausted during the day because I don't go to sleep at a good time the night before, and I often have to order pizza instead of writing out our menu plan ahead of time. It's time to change - I need to change.

I think small steps are the best ways to instill a new habit. I love making lists - not only to check off what has been done (somethings before I even started the list), but to have a visual reminder of what needs to get done. So, let's start this change with a list!

One of my biggest joy busters is being ill-prepared. My last minute mayhem tends to be the leading cause of brash decisions, flaired tempers, and panic.

5 Ways I Can Be Better Prepared:
  1. Shower in the PM
Showering in the PM will ensure I get myself clean, give myself quiet time, and give me a head start on tomorrow.
  2. Prepare for tomorrow the evening before
Lay out clothes, pack diaper bag, pack lunches, etc.
  3. Create a weekly schedule
I have a schedule template that I used to use to lay out our days. It is in 15 min increments and I use it as a guideline for my day. When I was at my best housewife life, I would schedule in everything from lunches, to naptimes, to errands, and the lot. It also helped my daughter know what the day was going to hold and what to expect.
  4. Create a menu plan
Write two weeks worth of menu plans including a general list for breakfast and specific daily items for lunch and dinner.
  5. BE HOME MORE
This is exactly what I need to do. Our family has a hectic schedule and I need to learn to streamline it. It will help every member of this family.
What are some things you would change to become better prepared?
